To start the season the Flyers were getting ready for an evaluation-like season that would see every part of the organization heavily observed and developed. With that came the criticism of the organization at every turn. Every injury questioned, every roster choice second guessed, and every potential trade seen as the first step into a fire sale. Now as we are at the end of the regular season there has definitely been a tone shift in the organization. A new GM, a new Chairman, several upcoming free agents, retirements in the organization’s media, and a new President of Hockey operations coming, it’s safe to say that this team’s story has changed.
With the changes up top there will be many changes in decision making and overall tone of the team and with one of the most important entry drafts in the team’s history coming up this summer, the Flyers have a chance to change their own luck. Can new comer Danny Briere add to his rag, tag group of up and coming young talent in the league or will he find himself stuck in mediocrity? The one thing that can be said about luck, is that luck is a when opportunity meets preparation. Under former GM, Chuck Fletcher, the Flyers never seemed prepared for the competitiveness of the NHL, but with former playoff hero and all-star in Daniel Briere, at the helm, it feels like their fate could change. The fact the Briere always raised his game in the toughest of moments on the ice, should bring some hope that he’ll be able to do that as a GM. This could be the time for someone like Briere to thrive.

With his deep knowledge of the game his relationship to the athletes, Derek is one of the best people for insight at the ground level of the game. He has more stories than anyone I met regarding the team and yet is humble enough to not overuse him.
