E110 – Can A New Coach Help Key Flyers Players Breakout?
The waiting game continues as the Philadelphia Flyers slowly sign the restricted free agents they have, finish up their scouting reports for the NHL Entry Draft, and hire their next head coach. Top candidates Barry Trotz and John Tortorella are both leading candidates in the public eye. However, former Flyer, Rick Tocchet recently interviewed with the team. This is a surprising development, as most thought the team would not interview him this offseason. With those three names being the some of the top choices the Flyers have moving into the offseason, the Boston Bruins recently fired their long time head coach Bruce Cassidy. Suddenly the market for coaches has gotten even more competitive. It is unclear which coach the Flyers will land in the competitive marketplace, but it is clear that they have some top tier options. As the weeks pass, the Flyers must be getting ready to make a decision as the draft approaches.
Check out this episode of the Getting Gritty Wit It podcast as Yariv Wolok and Vasili Gianarakos discuss who is the best option for the Flyers as coach and which key Flyers roster players would benefit the most from the oncoming change in leadership behind the bench. Can a new coach help the league recognize Sean Couturier as a top Center in the NHL again? Can he revitalize Provorov’s potential? And can he get Carter Hart the type of system to help him thrive?
