2nd Period
Just as time expired on their power play the Bruins took the lead. Oskar Steen found the back of the net at the 11:44 mark for his 11th on the season. After taking back-to-back penalties as one canceled the Phantoms converted on the man advantage. Cooper Marody netted the power play tally his 6th goal of the season at 17:11. Just 13 seconds later the Bruins responded with a goal of their own, Georgii Merkulov netted it, his 10th on the year.
3rd Period
Ersson didn’t face as many shots as Bussi did on the other end but early in the period made a huge save on a backdoor feed to keep it a one-goal game. Tension started to build over from the first 2 periods and caused more pushing and shoving following whistles. About 3 minutes into the period Ginning for the Phantoms and McLaughlin for the Bruins were both assessed roughing minors and caused 4-on-4 hockey to be played. Nothing really happened until approximately five minutes later when Hayden Hodgson stirred the pot and got things going, dropping the gloves with Nick Wolff which seemed to give Lehigh a momentum boost. Lehigh carried the momentum and applied pressure but a Garret Wilson Cross-Checking minor gave the Bruins a late power play chance. Providence capitalized on the man advantage, Marc McLaughlin netting the goal his 8th of the year at 17:02. The Phantoms would threaten but couldn’t find the back of the net, as the Bruins hold on for a 4-2 win, their first regulation win over the Phantoms this season.
The Phantoms head to Hershey where they’ll play against the Bears tomorrow night at 7:05 in their final game before the AHL All-Star Break.
