The Flyers kick off their season on October 12th, and it’s a season of redemption of some sort. They are currently enduring a rebuild, as stated by the new regime spearheaded by Dan Hilferty, Keith Jones, and Danny Briere. This young Flyers team will look to capitalize off a year of experience, in most cases, under John Tortorella. The majority of this team knows what to expect from Tortorella, to include the youth, who in most cases endured a rigorous training camp for the 2022-23 season under the first year Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella. So what are some things Flyers fans can expect this season?

This Flyers team will compete on most nights. People can say what they want about the Flyers. They will battle hard and compete on most nights. One thing that has remained constant throughout Tortorella’s coaching career is he has his teams fully prepared for the task ahead. Meaning, his team’s battle and fight to the very end of the hockey game, regardless of the score. If a player takes a shift off, well they won’t see another game for a few games. If a player whines about playing time or being benched, well he may not see the ice for seven games.

The orange and black are enduring a rebuild, so many of the youth will play at different times throughout the course of the season. Tortorella has said over and over again throughout the course of training camp that the defense position will see many players going from the Flyers back to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, vice versa. The position of defense will be in influx throughout the season and Tortorella will not be afraid to call up the youth, such as, Ronnie Attard, Adam Ginning, and possibly Emil Andrae. In addition, it’s not just the position of defense that contains a lot of prized prospects. The forward position might be an influx as well. Maybe Bobby Brink will receive an early recall, possibly Elliot Desnoyers, or even Olle Lycksell. It shall be noted with the way Tortorella has spoken so highly of Forester after last night’s game, and my opinion he has that positional battle between him and Brink.

Lastly, will Owen Tippett pot 30 goals? Will Cam Atkinson be the 25 to 30 goal scorer that he typically is? How will Sean Couturier fare? Can Travis Konecny replicate his great 2022-23 season? Will Travis Sanheim rebound? Can Carter Hart continue his successful NHL career? These are some storylines that are going to be fun to watch, this team will be fun to watch this season.

Will they make the playoffs? Who knows, but they can if health aligns properly. How many times have Flyers fans in the past couple of seasons seen the Flyers gain momentum in the standings, and then they suffer that significant injury or blow to their lineup. It’s happened more often than not, but for once it appears that Couturier is finally back healthy and so is Cam Atkinson. That can only spell good news at least to start the season, finally, nearly 100% healthy, minus Ryan Ellis of course).

  1. Still haven’t learned to use the words “in flux” (see in influx). I really hope you have a great day job, because your writing is atrocious (that means bad).
