Everyone throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond are wondering what’s the next Flyers move? Well, Flyers fans are hoping it’s a Left Winger. One missing element this team needs is a player that can skate and score. Some one like Johnny Gaudreau aka “Johnny Hockey”.

If one watched the Stanley Cup playoffs this past session, then they would have noticed how much faster teams were, as compared to the Flyers. Gaudreau not only can skate, but he has a knack for the net. He netted 40 goals, and registered 75 assists for 115 points. Better yet he was a +64, just insane numbers.

The Flyers were not only ousted of the 2020 Playoffs because of their lackluster power play, and for that matter they missed the playoffs in 2021 and 2022 because of such, as well. In most cases they could not score with the man advantage, had trouble scoring in general, and some players were afraid of taking a beating to score a goal. As the playoffs wear on, ice becomes tougher and tighter. You need some players that are physical and skilled.

“Johnny Hockey” is probably the most coveted free agent on the market. He is liked by most fans, but Gaudreau is a good player that can skate and pot a big goal if a team is need of such. He would help the Flyers Power at immensely, as the Flyers could benefit from his vision and skill he pertains. Gaudreau registered 25 points on the man advantage this past season (6g,19a). These are the type of plays the Flyers lacked in the playoffs 2020, and this past season for that matter. This is one missing element to this team, goal scoring.

Travis Konecny lead the team in points with 52 this past season. Enter Johnny Gaudreau a player that will score and pot some big key goals like the world witnessed in the 2022 playoffs. Gaudreau tallied three goals and 11 assists for a total of 14 points in 11 games in the playoffs. He seems to just take his game to another player in crunch time.

Gaudreau stands at 5’9 and weighs 165 pounds. The Flyers could benefit from a Winger like Gaudreau. Yes, the Flyers would have to move salary out to make it work (James van Riemsdyk or moving Ryan Ellis to LTIR), but it’s possible. I saw the Flyers get pushed around a lot this past season, and they had trouble scoring especially at key times. The addition of Gaudreau would prevent this from happening even more.

Bring Johnny home Chuck Fletcher, Gaudreau is from Salem County, NJ.

  1. By signing DeAngelo this free agent cannot be signed. There is no money left. They still have open roster spots to sign just to get the the 25 man roster. They are going to have to get rid of some just to pay those salaries unless ellis is ltir. If he has to miss a big part of the season this teams is doomed. Add brink probably needing surgery and miss time does not help any. Cf continues to just make thing worse by every move he makes.

  2. You guys are really tone deaf if you think the Flyers signing Johnny Hockey is going to reignite this fan base. People are smart enough to know that all a signing like that does is help them reach their ceiling of mediocrity. The pieces around him aren’t anywhere near good enough to even contend for a cup let alone win one. If the Flyers organization really wants to reignite the fan base, Dave Scott needs to step down and Clarke and Holmgren need to go with him. Then they need to hire a young GM who is in touch with how hockey is played in this day and age. If they do that and ownership pledges to be patient with a rebuild like the Rangers did a few years ago, that will do a lot more to reignite the fan base then a Band-Aid signing like Johnny Hockey

    1. Well said…but the Flyers need to go further. Every ex-Flyer taking up time and space in the Front Office (in Drafting, Scouring, Player development) has to go.

Their draft record is horrendous over the past decade…and the ‘Powers that Be’ seem ok with that. They’re never held accountable for their track record, and changing coaches every 3-4 years is only covering up the real ‘ills’ of this club.

Not sure how low this team has to go before someone of a Higher Authority gets involved.
