The Flyers and General Manager Chuck Fletcher have been very busy today as expected for this time of year with re-signing Robert Hagg, and making another bold move.
“The Flyers are excited to have Chris Stewart join our team in a hockey operations role after an excellent career in the NHL,” Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher said via the Flyers. “I’ve known Chris for a long time and have admired the way he plays the game, but also how he conducts himself off the ice as a true professional and leader in the locker room. He will be a valuable asset to help mentor our young players and shape their future as Flyers.”

“I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter,” Chris Stewart said via the Flyers. “The Flyers are a first class organization with a lot of people I am eager to learn from. I intend to use my unique experience over my 13-year professional career to help younger players achieve their ultimate goal.”
This is a great move for the 32-year-old in Stewart, as the City of Philadelphia has become a mainstay for Stewart and his family in just one season of calling Philadelphia home.

Stewart is a class act, and a well respected player throughout the NHL. He did a tremendous job with helping Nolan Patrick through tough times, and he became a great mentor to the young Joel Farabee:
“He’s (Chris Stewart) just a good thing to have in the locker room, and a lot of guys are that way,” Farabee said to me in December. “He didn’t have to invite me for Thanksgiving. It just shows who he is as a person.”

This was a great move by the Flyers with appointing Stewart as a player developmental coach today.
