The Flyers have completed their regular season with 75 points, as they missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season. It was a season of up and down hockey, but one thing that were made constant was the effort displayed by the team. On most nights they never quit, and made this season much more watchable than the previous three. All in all, they need to improve, they need more high-end talent to compete with playoff teams. Without further delay here are the notes to John Tortorella’s and Danny Briere’s seasoning season ending press conference.
John Tortorella:
- “I think we have a ways to go. I think we’re too goddamn sensitive here about simply coaching.”
- John Tortorella on Tony DeAngelo: “Tony didn’t play the last 5 games, so something happened. We are going to keep that between me, Tony, and the team.”
- John Tortorella held a lot of players accountable this season. Some passed the test mentally, while others did not: “After holding people accountable. You find out about people, and I found out about people.”
- John Tortorella held a lot of players accountable this season. Some passed the test mentally, while others did not: “After holding people accountable. You find out about people, and I found out about people.”
- John Tortorella did say that the defense is not set in stone. He said there are no locks.
Danny Briere:
- Danny Briere does not want to block the youth, he wants to figure out what they have in the system: “I wish I could give you a timeline.”
- Danny Briere was happy with how the season went with Torts. It appears the two have formed a really good relationship, so hopefully this is a sign of good things to come.
- Danny Briere confirmed that Jay O’Brien will not be signed. The NHL still hasn’t stated if it will be a 2023 second round pick, or a 2024 second round pick.
Danny Briere will be the full-time GM. He will have the interim title removed. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.
