The trade deadline came and went, and it was very underwhelming for the Flyers and their proud faithful. Only two players were dealt today, just a few days after Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher said that the team was selling. Unfortunately, JvR is still a Flyer, and how this happened is beyond me. With that being said, here are the notes to Chuck Fletcher’s trade deadline presser, for all the answers to your burning questions:
- Chuck Fletcher on JvR: “This guys a good player, and get it for you for $3.5 million, I’ve been telling teams for 3 weeks.”
- Chuck Fletcher said he never got a “Firm offer” for JvR.
- Chuck Fletcher on JvR: “The market spoke.”
- Chuck Fletcher says he’s been talking to teams for 3 weeks.
- Chuck Fletcher says that JvR was not pending a physical, “He’s fine.”
- Chuck Fletcher says what he wanted for JvR wasn’t too high, and it didn’t scare buyers.”
- Chuck Fletcher:
- “The goal is not to gut the team to get better.”
- Chuck Fletcher said they will meet with Cutter Gauthier when his playoffs are complete.
- Fletcher, “I talk with Cutter, and have been up there.”
- Chuck Fletcher: “I understand our fans are disappointed. I haven’t done that job (Playoffs). We have injuries, but we need more talent and that’s on me.”
- Chuck Fletcher: “I’m not worried about my job, that’s on Dave Scott.”
Flyers I understand your frustrations. I will have a more in-depth article about this tomorrow.
