To put it nicely, this was a terrible season by the Flyers. This year Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher said the season took years off his life, what did he say this year? Here are the notes from Chuck Fletcher’s year-end press conference with the media today:

Offseason Plan

  • An “Aggressive retool” on the same lines as 2019-20
  • Investigating the medical staff in regards to injuries
  • Getting Ellis and Coots back healthy
  • Signing Ivan Fedotov to compete for 2B
  • Trading assets (Young players) to win now, with a view from short-term and long-term.
  1. Chuck Fletcher announced Sam Morin’s playing career is over. Just unbelievably sad news. Fletcher says, “He won’t be able to return to play. Too many knee injuries. Unfortunately, too much damage to the knee.” The Flyers will offer Sam a job within the organization is some form.
  2. Chuck Fletcher on Morgan Frost: “He really took to heart the constructive criticism. I thought he finished very strongly. He needs to continue to get stronger, bigger like every young player.”
  3. Fletcher on the medical staff: “We will know a lot more when it gets to the pressure points, and medical is comfortable with him coming back to be a good player for us.”
  4. Right now the Flyers top brass are moving forward with Ellis being a top pairing Dman next season.
  5. Chuck Fletcher on Ryan Ellis: “This is the best he’s felt in a while. I think we have a great plan in place. I like it if it all goes as scheduled. The plan is to have him healthy for training camp.”
  6. Chuck Fletcher on Provorov: “He gets every tough matchup, especially on the PK. He’s already a pretty good player.”
  7. Chuck Fletcher: “Our goaltending did their job this year. Felix Sandström played well under the circumstances.”
  8. Fletcher: “We are hopeful for coming to terms on Fedotov in the near future. We are expecting him to get the proper paperwork to come here next season. He will compete for the number two job.”
  9. Fletcher: “The performance was less about the leadership, and players playing out of place.”
  10. Chuck Fletcher said they will look into the medical staff, and overall structure of such
  11. Fletcher, “We are very disappointed in our season, it’s unacceptable. It was a devastating season. We have the ability to improve rather quickly with a top pick this year, and other youth coming in.”
  12. Fletcher: “I told Mike yesterday he would not be the Head Coach. We dealt him a tough hand. We did better 5-on-5, we will continue to talk, and he is someone we would like in our organization moving forward.”
  13. Chuck Fletcher says he is just starting the process of hiring a coach, they will meet tomorrow with hockey ops to develop a profile on the next head coach, then they will begin the interview process.

  1. This whole team needs a change in attitude and philosophy. Front office: get rid of every ex-Flyer taking up time and space, who have no business being there. Instead, ‘pay them to stay away’, similar to what we do with Bernie Parent.

    Next coach…no ex-Flyers

    Next GM…see above.

I don’t care what Fletcher or Scott are saying; there are no ‘quick fixes’ here. What’s more shocking is that they don’t see it. Classic case of denial.
