To put it nicely, last season was a terrible season, as it was one of the worst Flyers season’s historically. Following the 2020-21 season, Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher said the season took years off his life so what did he say this year? Well, it wasn’t much better, here are the notes from Chuck Fletcher’s season opening press conference with the media yesterday:

  1. The Flyers are high on Hayden Hodgson: “Whether it was Lappy, Brent, Danny, me, we’re very impressed with what he did last season, so that bought him the opportunity to be here now. He knows he has to step up a bit, and he’ll get that opportunity.” – Chuck Fletcher
  2. “We’re going to get better. I think we are an exciting young team. We’re going to be fast, we’re going to be aggressive. We’re working hard to come together as a group.” – Fletcher
  3. Sean Couturier is continuing to progress, per Fletcher: “He feels great, he’s progressing. If anything, we’re trying to slow him down from time to time. He’s really anxious to get back, but this is the best he’s felt since pre-surgery last year so we’re cautiously optimistic.”
  4. Chuck Fletcher: “This is a year we got to find out who’s part of the solution going forward, and hopefully a lot of these players grab that opportunity.”
  5. Chuck Fletcher has confirmed this is your opening night pairings: Provorov-DeAngelo, Sanheim-Ristolainen, Zamula-Braun
  6. Fletcher confirmed that they have $3.9 million in cap space with the 23 man roster, but it can fluctuate with carrying less than 23.
  7. Fletcher on Ryan Ellis: “He’s continuing to rehab every day. He’s been in the facility a lot, but there’s been no substantial or substantive change in his situation.”
  8. Fletcher confirmed that Felix Sandström sustained a groin strain, in which if he was a skater he would probably be able to play but they are being cautious with him due to being a Goaltender and having to be a bit more flexible.

What will happen this season is anyone’s guess, but it will be an interesting one to see how everything transpires.
