To put it nicely, this was a terrible season by the Flyers. Last season, Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher said the season took years off his life, what did he say this year? Well, it wasn’t much better, here are the notes from Chuck Fletcher’s free agency press conference with the media today:

  1. The Flyers have added 5 players: Most notably Troy Grosnick. Fletcher says Samuel Ersson, Sandström, and Grosnick will have a competition for the backup role to Carter Hart
  2. Chuck Fletcher says the Flyers are done, “We are done. We are out on the remaining free agents.” He says they are out of the remaining free agents due to cap
  3. Cooper Marody is back and most likely will play for the Phantoms. Kevin Connauton was also re-signed to a two-year, two-way deal.
  4. Chuck Fletcher says the “Aggressive Retool” was being aggressive with holes. For instance, the defense position.
  5. Chuck Fletcher is really putting all his eggs in a basket on Sean Couturier returning. He also said that Cutter Gauthier was the high-end talent obtained.
  6. Chuck Fletcher said Cam York and Ronnie Attard will also compete for jobs.
  7. Fletcher says they are “Retooling”. He says the biggest weakness was on defense, if Ellis is out. They can’t LTIR him, and he says his biggest concern was not having enough Defenseman.
  8. The good news: Fletcher says Wade Allison, Morgan Frost, Tanner Laczynski, and Hayden Hodgson deserve a chance for a spot, and says they have to see where they are at as organization with the youth.
  9. Fletcher says Nic Deslauriers is good at defense and can penalty kill.

How in the World were you not in on the biggest free agent that wanted to come to Philly (Practically). Sorry that doesn’t mean you have to win the Johnny Gaudreau sweepstakes, but how are you not interested.

  1. This guy should never been hired, but if this ownership thinks that this gm did anything right this year they are delusional. This will probably go down as the worst offseason in flyers history. It may be one of the worst in nhl history. Its 10 years to get out of the mess they are in now. I implore all fans to just not spend 1 dollar on this team as they is the only thing they care about. We cannot even look forward to this years draft picks were terrible. How can you draft a center who never played center before? This is the only player with a chance to make to the nhl.

  2. In my 55 years of supporting the Flyers I feel I am at the lowest point ever with this team. We have players that no-one in the NHL are interested in unless you throw in draft picks. Where are the talent evaluators and why haven’t they been fired? Why in the world would we need to bring Justin Braun and a fourth line fighter onto this roster? I agree with Why we lose. I will not go to any home game this year until I see someone held accountable for this debacle. I will still watch the games on TV and travel to away games, but I will not support this administration. Is Fletcher trying to tell us that all the defensemen in the system are worse options than Justin Braun? York, Attard, Zamula , etc? Ed Snider is rolling in his grave. All I can see here is a Connor Bedard sweepstakes with Chicago and Arizona. Come February the Flyers better be ready to send all players out that anyone has an interest in. When a hometown superstar cannot be given an offer because we are cap strapped when we knew a year in advance he wanted to come home tells you all you need to know about the Flyers former position of competing for the Stanley Cup every year. This is sad.

    1. One more thing, can we please stop calling Lauren Hart ” The number one anthemist”. This has got to be embarrassing to her as much as I am sure it is to everyone else who laughs every time they hear this. Are we down to this and Gritty as the only thing the Organ I zation thinks is important.

  3. Fletchers days with the Flyers should be over. Today was a joke and he thinks it was good. He put this team in such a mess that it may not be possible to dig out of. I am seriously thinking about selling my season tickets. They aren’t cheap and I feel like I am throwing money away at this point. All fans should stick together and boycott till he is gone.

  4. Words fail me! G is gone and are cap is so bad that we can sign Johnny Hockey to replace him!!! Unbelievable!

  5. Terrible front office no excuse for this team to have a bunch of overpaid players that suck

  6. I said it before and I will continue to keep saying it. We have a voice and that voice is to show this clown club of a group where it hurts them the most..empty seats. An organization being sued by their own trainers b/c their very sick. A boss that promised to fix it with two gold platters (Debrincat and JG) at their disposal and come up empty is a PR nightmare. A GM who continues to curse us with his previous mistakes is only digging us deeper into the abyss ( Hayes being paid as a 2C, Ellis, Resto). And I’m sorry, drafting a Center who has never played Center doesn’t guarantee high end talent. York over Caufield…List goes on. The best move was hiring Torts and that was done by a consulting firm not Chuck. I feel bad for DeAngelo cause what a dream to come home but such bad timing for him..
I have made up my mind to root for JG in Columbus (honestly prob best fit). And to root for the league as a whole. I barely watched any Flyers last year and won’t now. Sabres are looking pretty sweet with Savoie, Dahlin, Power, Tage, Krebs plus those sweet powder blues. $100 FOR NHL TV and my troubles are behind me.
Get a new board, get a new face of the organization not some turd named Scott, hire a player gm (briere) not some daddy name with an ivy league degree, get rid of those crappy orange and black mesh jerseys and stay with the jet black ones, trade the often injured 200 foot dead weight that cant score, and get some damn goal scorers and pray your face of a franchise doesn’t burn himself in net before you get the traines on track…Then maybe your product will be worth purchasing.

  7. Last season was the Flyers worst season in over 50 years. And the only 2 players they got rid of were Claude Giroux and Oskar Linblom. Worst team I have seen in my life and they only get rid of 2 players. And one of the best player on the team. And the other was the most inspirational player on the team.

    1. Add the fact that they are being sued by staff for cancer related illnesses you would think you would try to keep ol around as it’s not alot of money compared to the contracts they give as a goodwill thing. I am glad he signed elsewhere and I hope he does well out there. I guess this team is now 100% corporate. Earnings are everything.

  8. I am so glad to see pother fans as upset i am that this clown Fletcher has not been fired. JG would have been worth a 1st round and JVRs contract. Why did the Flyers ever hire this dude he sucked and failed for the Wild and has failed here. I will not sped a penny to watch this team lose this season

  9. I can’t believe this guy Fletcher…..he really needs to go NOW! If we thought the Flyers were bad last year, wait until this season. I think they will be awful…..their biggest takeaway this offseason is a guy who is playing at BC this year to learn how to play Center????? Seriously? No one should go to their games. This is PATHETIC!!!!

  10. Say hello to another high first round draft pick.
    ..which Fletcher will screw up.
