The Flyers made a big trade this past Thursday night, and it shook most of Philadelphia. They traded away a leader in Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost, who was seen as a potential top six ayer when he was drafted.
Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere spoke about the deal today, so here are some good tidbits from the presser.
- Danny Briere: “I want to apologize to everyone to not be available yesterday. I didn’t expect the trade to happen that quickly. Has plans to go out West for scouting.”
- Danny Briere on Jakob Pelletier: “A former first round pick. Couldn’t get it going in Calgary, so we are hoping he can get it going. He has a high motor, he’s only 23.”
- Danny Briere: “Ideally we wanted to add a Center. In this case it didn’t come through.”
- Danny Briere says that the move with Joel Farabee was about cap flexibility. He says there weren’t many teams willing to take on his full salary. In the same token, he said with Morgan it was about being paid more money.
- Danny Briere says that the trade wasn’t an easy one, it was tough, “That’s the job that I have. I’m here to make the tough decisions.”
- Danny Briere says that this trade gives them possibilities for the offseason, in terms of adding, “It cracks the doors open to those possibilities. We aren’t going to spend money for the fun of it.”
- Danny Briere on Jakob Pelletier: “We will see with Pelletier, maybe he provides a spark, spunk.”
- Danny Briere says that this trade offers more for the future.
- Danny Briere says there have been issues with visas, so both Pelletier and Kuzmenko may not play tomorrow, but they are hopeful they play in Utah.
- Danny Briere is hoping that Andrei Kuzmenko could help the Power Play
- The biggest nugget to Danny Briere’s presser was Briere hinting that they were going to take a look at Andrei Kuzmenko in free agency. It’s quite obvious they have been watching him for sometime, especially after Calgary’s GM said they were trying to make a trade for sometime now
Emil Andrae and Jacob Gaucher recalled
Both Emil Andrae and Jacob Gaucher have been recalled for the game tomorrow in Colorado.
Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere says there have been issues with visas, so both Pelletier and Kuzmenko may not play tomorrow, but they are hopeful they both play in Utah on Tuesday.
