Chuck Fletcher made a bold move today, and traded for Rasmus Ristolainen. Fletcher has been keen on shoring up the defensive position before free agency begins next Wednesday, so much so there were numerous teams inquiring about Ristolainen. The Flyers paid a hefty price for wrist alignment to include tonight’s 13th overall pick, in a second round pick in 2023. Here are the notes from today’s presser with Fletcher following the trade.

Chuck Fletcher:

  1. Fletcher on trading the first round pick: “It was extremely difficult”
  2. Fletcher said different coaches and players (High turnover) could have made Ristolainen worse than he actually was to the public’s eyes.
  3. Fletcher said he added experience on the backend
  4. Fletcher’s blue print left, per Fletcher: Backup goalie, Penalty Kill help
  5. Fletcher on Robert Hägg: “He was a great human being. I want to thank him, and hope he has a great season in Buffalo.”
  6. Fletcher said he is looking to add players to help with the penalty kill, but nothing in regards to a big trade
  7. Fletcher said Reinhart was not in the conversation with Risto. He was more focused on cap space.
  8. Fletcher said talks with Buffalo have been on going for 3 years.

Rasmus Ristolainen:

  1. Ristolainen: “I was surprised, but I knew something would happen this weekend.”
  2. Ristolainen: “I’m a player that is a pain the ass, hardworker, hit, I can play the PK and PP.”
  3. Ristolainen: “I don’t care what my role is. I will do anything to help my team win.”
  4. Ristolainen says trade rumors didn’t really bother him, and “I’m extremely happy, and it finally happened.”

What happens next is anyone’s guess, but the Flyers mean business this offseason. Buckle up folks this is going to be a busy few days.
