Nicolas Aubé-Kubel was selected 48th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2014 draft. He would then spend two additional seasons with the Val-d’Or of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. During the 2014-2015 season he tallied 38 goals and 42 assists for a total of 80 points in 61 games played. In the following season he scored 38 goals and 46 assists to total 84 points in 61 games.
He would then go on to play three full seasons with Lehigh Valley. During his first full season with Lehigh Valley, he would only score nine goals and nine assists for a total of 18 points in 71 games played. The following season he more than doubled his points, as he scored 18 goals and 28 assists to total 46 points in 72 games played.
Aubé-Kubel made his NHL debut against the Anaheim Ducks on October 30, 2018. During that stint with the Flyers, he only registered two shots on goal in nine games played. He was then returned to the AHL following this brief stint. During the 2018-2019 season, he scored 16 goals and 14 assists to total 30 points in 54 games played for the Phantoms.
This young 24-year-old in NAK started the 2019-2020 season in the AHL. He was recalled on December 15, 2019. NAK scored his first NHL point, an assist, that same day against the Winnipeg Jets. He scored his first NHL goal eight days later, which would be a power play goal against the New York Rangers on December 23rd.
In the 2019-2020 season, NAK would score seven goals and eight assists to total 15 points in 36 games played. NAK has two goals and three assists for a total of five points in 18 games played this season, and has been a force physically. He is really making some nice tape to tape passes as highlighted below:
During last night’s game he got his fourth and fifth assists of the year on both of Giroux’s goals. That brings him to two goals and five assists for a total of seven points in 19 games played. He also got the great check of the game for his check against former Flyer Mark Friedman. NAK has definitely proven that he can be a solid bottom six forward. I do believe as he finds his game he could easily be a top six forward.
