Morgan Frost was rewarded with a new two-year contract worth $4.2 million ($2.1 million AAV) this past offseason. This was a great deal for both Frost and Flyers. He didn’t want to miss one day of camp, thus getting on the bad side of John Tortorella.
Through all the benching’s, believe it or not Morgan Frost played in his 200th NHL game this past season against the Seattle Kraken. Frost was good since his last benching, he’s creating offense and playing very well defensively. For his strong efforts, Frost registered three goals and 11 assists (14 Points) in 15 games played at one point since his last benching (Minus the Washington Capitals game of one period).
“This is the best season I’ve had in terms of health,” Morgan Frost said. “There were a bunch of guys grinding through how they were feeling.”
Frost continues, “I think I’ve matured a lot, and grown up a lot. I think I’ve learned how to handle situations better.”
Frost’s first game back in the lineup was against the Calgary Flames on January 6, 2024, and he potted a big goal. He said “Let’s go” after doing a Danny Briere signature following his goal, and he also registered and assist in that game, as well.
Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella said that Morgan Frost wanted to have a meeting with him, as to exactly why he was/is constantly getting benched. Tortorella was thrilled that Frost came to his office and wanted to have a meeting, “I met with Frosty today. It’s a big step for Frosty. He came to me for a meeting,” Tortorella said following Frost’s benching. “Today was a good honest conversation of what’s happening now, and kind of big picture stuff. I was thrilled he wanted to come in. He gave me some of his thoughts.”
This is great to hear, the two hashed it out like men. Tortorella can appear to be scary at times, so I give Frost a lot of credit for having the guts to go talk to his coach about seeing what he needs to improve to stay in the lineup. Frost and Tortola didn’t complain to the media about one another, this is a way to get to know each other better, and let both know where each side stands.

For his efforts, Frost is arguably one of the most talented forwards the Flyers have at this time. He can make something out of nothing, as he has good on-ice awareness. Frost has a ton of skill, and his hands remind of Claude Giroux’s with the way he razzles and passes the puck.
It appears that the benching was a confidence booster for this young man and he rightfully needs one. This does not mean this is the end of the road for Frost, this can only help him moving forward within the organization.

I really think that Morgan Frost took the next step, not only in his development, but as a player. He handled everything well this past season with Torts, and he says he respects him a lot. All of that, and he will have a convo in the Summer with Torts too, like Coots. Through all this, Frost has persevered and played in 200 games and counting at the NHL level. Kudos to him for keeping his head together through all this.
