This is crazy news right, and yes you read the title properly. Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher announced today to the media that a hulking 6’7 Samuel Morin would move to the Left Wing position on a tryout basis. Morin said that Head Coach Alain Vigneault proposed this idea to him as the Flyers were pushed around “A bit” in the playoffs. Initially Morin was shocked, but Morin said he would do anything to save his career.

“I think I was the only one in town in October. I think AV was saying that I was working really, really hard to be back. He asked for me for a meeting. He just told me straight up if I could play left wing. He told me about the lack of physicality in the playoffs, especially against the Islanders. The guys were kind of getting pushed around, even against Montreal, and he needed a guy to answer to that.”– Samuel Morin

Morin’s season came to a halt on October 3, 2018 as a member of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, as he tore his ACL in his right knee. A prized 6’7,” first-round selection was down for the count. Somehow he returned in February of 2019, and managed to play in five games with the Flyers that season.

The 2013 first round selection in Morin found himself in a log jam at defense this season, to which he was only able to play in one game with the big club. Morin was mainly used as a seventh defenseman, until Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher sent him to the Phantoms on a conditioning stint. Unfortunately, his season has ended prematurely after playing in 3 games with the Phantoms.

As Morin’s future now hangs in the balance in Philadelphia, now he moves to the Left-Wing position. He needs to simplify his game puck possession wise, as he is a decent skater. Morin also needs to work on making effective decisions with the puck and this may come at camp. At this rate the only thing that matters is Morin getting healthy, and one can only imagine what he’s going through mentally at this moment. The young man is always chipper, and giddy in the locker room. Hopefully, Morin does well, as it is tough to recover from a torn ACL in the same knee twice. Prayers for Morin.

  1. Or we could have just signed a legitimate winger like Corey Perry that would bring the same sandpaper but actually be able to score for the same money.
