Ryan Marker, AKA ‘Magic’ by the Delaware Thunder, tallied his 31st goal of the season this past Sunday Afternoon. It was called by one of the Thunder’s broadcasters Tom Schultz, as he was yelling into the mic, “It’s magic, it’s magic, Marker goes top shelf where momma hides the cookies.” Maybe Schultz didn’t say that, who knows, all people have to know is that Marker is a magician on the ice.
So where does Marker get his ‘Magic’ from? Maybe it’s his family, “My father helped define me,” Marker said, “He raised me from when I was young. My brother also played a huge part. When I was younger I struggled in some parts of my game like puck control and skating. He played at a high level. One Summer he took off the Summer, and taught me how to skate with a perfect stride. Just took my game to the next level.”
Marker has just been on a tear this season. Goaltenders from opposing teams have broken many sticks over the crossbar this season, as Marker leaves them in the dust after potting goal after goal. A young stud in Marker, works his tail off in the off-season, but a special person has kept him in the sport of hockey…thankfully just saying, “My wife means everything to me,” Marker said, “Without her I don’t know if I’d be playing hockey. I love her, and can’t thank her enough. Just every step of the way, not just hockey.”
The young 25-year-old in ‘Magic’ Marker pushes the play, and is physical enough to handle the rigors of a full FPHL hockey season. Marker works hard in the summer, weight wise, for physicality purposes. Moreover, he also looks good with the pace of game against most teams, as well. For the season, Marker is third in the league in scoring with 55 points, as he has potted 31 goals (Leads league), and chipped in 24 apples in just 30 games played. The young man just continues to soar to new heights, and maybe it’s from watching Sid the kid, “Sidney Crosby is my favorite player,” Marker said, “It’s crazy to say because the Flyers are my favorite team. When I was little, I would watch him play when I was in Pee-Wee. He’s just insane, and he’s one player I would love to meet and play with.”
Marker appears to be a natural, and a player that knows how to score goals. He looks very good this season for the Thunder, especially with the way he carries the puck up the ice. If he keeps producing like he currently is doing, then make no mistake about it Marker has a good shot at reaching the ECHL possibly next season. Whatever the case maybe, Marker is what the doctor ordered, offensive wise, for this young Thunder team, “It’s all just focus and drive for the game. Got to keep pushing. Like any athlete, sometimes you don’t want to wake up and go to practice, but you realize it will make you better,” ‘Magic’ Marker says, “Just have to push.“
