Matvei Michkov officially hit the 60-point mark and 25 goals mark in his rookie campaign. For his efforts, he became the seventh Flyers rookie in history to eclipse the 25 goal mark in his rookie season. The last Flyers rookie to accomplish this feat was Mikael Renberg in 1993-94.

Even with all his accomplishments, he never takes any credit “We will work, we deserve it, we will continue to work,” Michkov said via translator yesterday, after being asked about how he felt with being the rookie goal scoring leader.

He looked re-energized, and very speedy following the Four Nations break, “After the break there’s more energy, more power in the body, so feel a lot better. When the team wins it not only helps me, but the team, as well,” Michkov said via translator.

“It would be strange if I don’t want to make the playoffs (Laughing),” Michkov said via translator. “Every player dreams they make the playoffs and win the Stanley Cup. Our team is trying for it, and hopefully we will make it. Otherwise there is no point to train, if we don’t want to win.”

The Flyers couldn’t have scripted a better result with adapting Michkov to North America. He proved that he could be a consistent 95 to 100 point player in the future, a player that should be considered for the Calder Trophy.

He was very much engaged following the Four Nations break, and it appears that Michkov just wants to get better. Michkov finished the season with an astounding 26 goals, and 37 assists for 63 points in his rookie campaign, following all the benchings and language barrier that he had to overcome.

The future is bright with Michkov in Flyerland.
