The seventh overall draft pick in Matvei Michkov really made an imprint with Sochi ever since he was traded from SKA St. Petersburg. Michkov really has found his game, as he finished the season with 19 goals and 22 assists in 47 games played. He just had a great season with Sochi, and Michkov now is officially a Flyer, per Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere. Finally from the heavens, Michkov is a Flyer for the 2024-25 season.

Last week, as Michkov was leaving JFK airport. He was seen donning a Red Phillies hat. That was the moment I began pondering if he would throw out the first ceremonial pitch at some point.

Today was the day, and he threw a strike to JT Realmuto, before a sold out raucous crowd in Philadelphia.

It was great to see the Philly faithful give Michkov a standing ovation, and see all the #39 gear in attendance already. What a great day to be a Flyers fan.
