Matvei Michkov sliced and diced the Boston Bruins today, however, the Flyers blew yet another lead in the third period, as they fell to the Boston Bruins 4-3 in overtime.
“Let me start. One thing I teach my team to do is not dive. Maybe I should start teaching them that. The way this is gone here, the way this shit has gone on here. Maybe I should teach him how to dive.m,” Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella said following the game.
Michkov got things started on the Power Play, and he makes it look easy in the bumper. Sean Couturier won a battle in the middle of the ice, and swept the puck over to Michkov for an early 1-0 lead for the Flyers.
That wasn’t it, as Michkov potted the second goal for the orange and black, as well. Travis Sanheim won a puck battle along the boards, and made a nifty pass to Michkov. Michkov was coming down the right side of the net, and boom, he finished the play for a 2-0 Flyers lead. The great thing is that was Michkov’s 11th goal of the season, and he is now officially classified as a finisher.
Michkov continues his unreal rookie season, and more than places him as the Calder Trophy favorite, and he would become the first Flyer to win it. He now has 11 goals and 13 assists in 25 games played, and also leads all rookies in goals scored with 11.
Cam York gave the Flyers a 3-1 lead with a blast from the point, and don’t touch Matvei. Charlie McAvoy found that out in a hard way in the second period. Owen Tippett cake in Michkov’s defense, as Matvei took a few cheap shots while he was down on the ice from McAvoy in came Tippett for defense.
Aleksei Kolosov was good today. It was a good rebound game for him, after coming in cold for Ivan Fedotov the other night against the Florida Panthers. He really was in command of this game from start to finish, as he made point blank save after point blank save today.
Unfortunately, penalties cost the Flyers in the end, even though some penalties were sketchy calls. They are just falling short when it matters most, although the Flyers extended their road point streak to six games (4-0-2).
All in all, hopefully the orange and black rebound tomorrow night against the Utah Hockey Club at 730pm.
