Matvei Michkov made his NHL debut with the Flyers on October 11, 2024, against the Vancouver Canucks. He was a standout rookie, racking up 60 points in his first season, including 40 points at 5-on-5 play. His offensive flair, with nine points in his first eight games instantly made him a Calder Trophy contender.

Recently, Michkov spoke with RG Media about winning, “I’ll take that over having more points and missing the playoffs. I’m tired of losing. I want to win.” Michkov is a fierce competitor, that trains and trains. Michkov wants to be the best player in the NHL, and one way to do that is by training.

The good news is Michkov is definitely training in Russia for the upcoming 2025-26 season. It didn’t take him long to get back on the ice.
Given his competitive nature and detailed offseason training plan mentioned by Flyers General Manager Danny Brière, it should come as no shock that Michkov is already gearing up for the upcoming season.
