Matvei Michkov is the biggest, polarizing, figure to don an orange and black sweater since Eric Lindros. Flyers fans are very excited, and are watching his every move. The build up to him arriving in Philadelphia yesterday, with the Flyers top executives was priceless. Now it’s the start of the Michkov era, with him wearing the #39:

Here are key notes to his first presser with the media in Philadelphia:

  1. Matvei Michkov says lots of guys reached out. He specifically said Ivan Fedotov and Egor Zamula helped, and he’s “Thankful for the warm welcome.”
  2. Danny Briere said the plan is to also have Michkov’s mom and brother come to North America at some point.
  3. Danny Briere said it’s not going to be easy for Matvei Michkov coming all the way from Russia. He said they will provide him a tutor He mentions re-signing Egor Zamula was key for this, and bringing in Ivan Fedotov, as well.
  4. Matvei Michkov: “It’s unreal how the fans are reacting. How welcome I feel coming in, at the same time, the main idea right now is getting ready and show really good hockey for the fans and play the best game I can play.”
  5. Matvei Michkov says he was on the ice today, and he “Will get better and better.”
  6. Matvei Michkov through Slava Kuznetsov (Translator): “The main idea is to win, and he’s here to help the team to win.”
  7. Matvei Michkov through translator: “He had a dream to play in NHL…now he’s here.”
  8. Matvei Michkov: “Bring young blood to the team. Put the goals on the scoreboard, and help the team win night after night. So the fans can be enjoying games more and more. Basically, help the team win the whole thing.”
