Matvei Michkov blasted the New York Rangers last night—on the ice, not with words—by scoring twice, including the overtime winner, to lift the Flyers to a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory at Madison Square Garden.

The Flyers were down 2-0 early in the game (goals from Alexis Lafrenière and another for the Rangers). Michkov got Philly on the board with a Power Play goal in the second period to make it 2-1. Trevor Zegras tied it early in the third, and then Michkov sealed it at 2:10 of overtime.

Michkov picked up the puck after his own minor penalty (goalie interference) carried over from late in the third, broke away on a rush, deked around a defender, and ripped a wrist shot five-hole past Igor Shesterkin for his 15th goal of the season and second of the night.

The Rangers had a 4-on-3 power play to start overtime, but couldn’t capitalize, leaving their guys gassed when Michkov struck.

This was a classic “blasting” via performance: torching the Rangers’ defense and Goaltending in a huge Metropolitan Division matchup right after the Olympic break.

He’s playing great. He looked fast, he looked confident with the puck,” Travis Konecny said about Michkov following the game.
