And so it begins. Another Pre-Season of Flyers’ hockey. This time the Flyers played the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. Fortunately, the Flyers won 3-2 in a shooting, that lasted 10 rounds. Emil Andrae eventually potted the game winner to send Rick Tocchet home happy.

The Islanders held a moment of silence before the game for the late passing of Legend Bernie Parent:

The Flyers’ roster for that game included Rodrigo Abols among other forwards like Matvei Michkov, Nikita Grebenkin, Denver Barkey, and Trevor Zegras.
Rodrigo Abols struck first, as he is vying for a spot in the bottom six, specifically the fourth line. He was fast and had his nose fur the goal.
Congrats to Jack Nesbitt on obtaining his first unofficial professional point, since it’s his first Pre-Season game. Nesbitt assisted on Abols goal.
Aleksei Kolosov had a strong first period, and the period ended 1-0. Unfortunately, Kyle Palmieri had the equalizer off a bad rebound by Kolosov, mid-way through the second.

Emil Andrae was activated late in the second period, and he pinched, but that lead to a 2-on-1 rush the other way. The Isles scored to make it 2-1. Kolosov’s night ended, while he made 15 saves on 17 shots faced, which was good for a .882 Save Percentage. He did play well, as he made some really tough saves, including two multiple 2-on-1 saves.
Carson Bjarnason
The Flyers have a future in Bjarnason . He was phenomenal, backstopping 15 saves on 15 shots faced. Bjarnason won the 10 round Shootout, and only allowed three goals in said Shootout.
He will head to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season, but this is a strong indication that he can be relief upon in the future.
Matvei Michkov
Michkov was the man, played very well, and had 6 shots on goal. He ended with a goal in regulation and the shootout.
He looked calm, poised, and possessed. Michkov fired six shots on net, which lead the team. It’s safe to say, he left off right where the season ended, on a high note for the young Russian up and coming Superstar.
Jamie Drysdale
Drysdale is finally healthy and it’s showing. His skating has been great all camp, and it lead to a Flyers goal. He assisted on Michkov’s goal, as Matvei buried the rebound with 1:18 left in regulation.
Believe it or not, Drysdale broke up plays, and really made it tough for the Islanders to get settled in the offensive zone. It looks like Todd Rierden has done well with teaching Drysdale at Training Camp.
