Hat trick for returning Bruin David Pastrnak. Takeaways from the game. We saw a lot of action tonight, including a hat trick, and some solid goaltending. Let’s get into it.

“Staying alive”

Flyers went down 1-0 very early in the first period. The home team didn’t seem to generate much early on and couldn’t get many shots on net. That being said, the Flyers were Not going away quietly and did not let the game get away. The Flyers stood “neck and neck” with the Bruins in shots, hits, and blocked shots. Keeping this game close was very important because it lead to a great goal by Kevin Hayes to tie the game at 1-1 after two. Keeping the pace with a really good Bruins team shows the Flyers can play with anyone. The Bruins did prevail in overtime, however, to win the game, but keeping it close showed a lot.

“Quick start in the third”

In what was a tight game through two, the next goal of the game was deemed to be a very important one, to whomever scored it. The Flyers grabbed an early goal to take the lead at 2-1 in the third period, a great goal by Jake Voracek to stay consistent throughout the first 11 games. Something the Flyers will want to do more against good teams like this is continue to play strong in the third period, it’s not always how you start games, but how you finish them. Sadly, they didn’t get the outcome they wanted. An
undisciplined penalty, a tough penalty by Scott Laughton to give the Bruins yet another power play going into the overtime was the final nail in the coffin. Laughton took An interference penalty, which clearly looked like he just needed to keep skating with the Bruins player.

Three goals for David Pastrnak

He adds an assist in overtime to new captain Patrice Bergeron for the win. Sad win here. Giving any team a Power Play is always a risk, giving the Bruins a Powerplay in overtime could end up in a loss, and that’s what happened here.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it
