The Flyers went for a series sweep of the Islanders on Sunday night.

Early on the Flyers took a couple of penalties, but were able to kill them off with some good saves by goalie Brian Elliott. The Flyers then had a 5-on-3 advantage with nine minutes left in the period, but failed to score.

Joel Farabee was able to score the games first goal at 18:42 by grabbing a loose puck and ripping just under the crossbar to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

The Islanders tied the game at one 38 seconds into the second period on a power play goal by Nick Leddy. A little over a minute after the Islander goal, Farabee scored again on assists by James van Riemsdyk and Travis Sanheim. Farabee got the hat trick late in the second period to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead going into the third period. It was Farabee’s first career hat trick. Unfortunately, there were no fans at the Wells Fargo Center and no hats were thrown on the ice.

The Islanders quickly tied the game in the first seven minutes of the third period on goals by Josh Bailey and Mathew Barzal. The Flyers killed off a power play later in the period and the game remained tied at three and went into overtime.

Elliott made a great save on Barzal three minutes into overtime and a few seconds later Barzal was called for high-sticking on Scott Laughton. Kevin Hayes scored the game winner for the Flyers on the ensuing power play after receiving a backhand pass from Claude Giroux. Final score was 4-3 Flyers.
