“I remember Ray Whitney said to me when I was young, as long as there’s an NHL symbol on your jersey, that means you’re having a good day,” Yandle said before his record setting game for consecuy games played. “I haven’t taken that for granted.”

Now he will be benched tonight against the New York Islanders, and his Iron Man streak will come to a halt at 989 games played. The last game he was scratched was on March 22, 2009. This move is perplexing to me, why now? Why didn’t Wyatte Wylie or Egor Zamula get called up earlier in his place?

Yandle is from Milton, MA, and is good friends with Kevin Hayes. He has also played under former Head Coach Alain Vigneault. The writing was on the wall for Yandle to not only fit in right away, but break the iron man record held by Doug Jarvis with 964 consecutive games played, a record that has stood since 1987, until January 25, 2022.

“It was special. To see all the support…it meant the world to me. I’m very grateful,” Yandle said after breaking the record for consecutive games played.

All good things must come to an end, and that will be the case tonight for Yandle. Regardless, of the situation you Yandle is a class act.

  1. Why now? This season’s been over shortly after it started. Classic shit move by a loser Flyers organization. (never thought I’d ever say that).
