One thing the new Flyers regime stated over and over again was getting back to the old Flyers hockey ways. Ways to include giving full effort, fighting, sticking up for teammates, just being a hard-nosed hockey team to play against again. The new regime wanted to bring life back to the Wells Fargo Center, as energy was sucked out of the building for the past few seasons. Yes losing does this, but it was how they were losing games that was the problem.
Now it’s just a different feeling as wife is being brought back to the Wells Fargo Center. Over the course of the past few months energy has been at a high level, and winning does that. However, this team is a different Flyers team than the past few seasons. They are well coached, they give max effort, they fight, they are actually fun to watch again, they are a family a tight family. Flyers hockey is back on Broad Street, and that was made evident yesterday during the Ed Snider Legacy game, “That was awesome. I was thinking to myself on the bench that there is no way we were going to lose this game. You can just feel it in your body, and excitement going through the game,” Travis Konecny said following the 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames.
Cam Atkinson said at least three or four times at his presser following the victory that this team is a family. That is great to hear, as some have been worried about the locker room over the course of the past few seasons, with morale obviously being at his low point because of losing. John Tortorella has said repeatedly that the locker room is a breath of fresh air this season.
It’s not just about the locker room, it’s about the new regime having the players and coaches’ backs. Yes winning does this, but this is a different feeling. Flyers’ Governor and CEO of Comcast Dan Hilferty, President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones, and general manager Danny Briere are often in the locker room following some games shaking hands with the players, and giving fist pumps after good victories. Yesterday was one heck of a Flyers victory, on a day the Flyers honored their founding father Ed Snider.
“It was a good game for Mr. Snider. Good style game for him, rest his soul,” John Tortorella said following the game. He continues, “The type of game, or style of game. I think he wanted us to play that way up there. I just wish I had a chance to meet him and talk to him. I thought the tribute the organization did was one of the better tributes I have seen.”
On one special day it appeared that the Broad Street Bullies were back. Joel Farabee stuck up Cam York, after York was driven into the boards by Greer from Calgary. There was a lot of talking, eventually ending with a massive scrum to end the game. Low and behold, the Flyers are back, the Flyers are back. This is a different feeling from years past, so cheers to the team, coaches’, and the new regime for instilling what it means to truly be a Flyer.
