The NHL trade deadline is 31 short days away. With that, comes a lot of selling for the Flyers, maybe one or two new additions will come via trade. Most likely they would be young prospects, not NHL ready talent. Assets that could be on the move for the orange and black are Scott Laughton, Sean Walker, Cam Atkinson, Marc Staal, and possibly Rasmus Ristolainen. Nick Seeler, is I have been reporting for about a month now should be re-signed when the trade deadline commences on March 8th.
John Tortorella continues to speak about the upcoming treat that line. He says that Flyers will not lose sight of what the overall big picture is of the organization. The Flyers have been very transparent with their fans, stating patients at times as they endure a rebuild. Staying patient in a sense that they want to build it from the ground up, building it the right way, not just making the playoffs one year in the next falling short, be contender one year and the next not so much.
“We are not backing off at all with the big picture of the organization with rebuilding,” John Tortorella said. “We have to listen to…on if a good asset is coming back. On the flip side, we are trying to win every God damn game.”
Tortorella knows the Flyers have a few assets that some teams will covet for a post-season run. In the same token, he highlights the same thing that Danny Briere alluded to in his mid-season presser, the organization will not make trades just to make trades. If the right asset comes forth, then the trade will happen.
it’s not just about draft picks being returned in the deal, they could be young prospects that could possibly be packaged for a bigger piece to the future. Would the Flyers like reclamation projects like a young Owen Tippett? Sure why not, if the right deal comes forth. Anything is possible, but acquiring one or two more first round draft picks wouldn’t hurt.
One thing is for certain, there will be some changes, changes of personnel player wise is what I mean. Changes with building the future in kind, changes for the better of the organization. Let the rumor mill commence now.
