The Flyers will endure a very busy offseason, and that was to be expected since the Flyers have undergone a free fall for the past few seasons. Especially with a new General Manager at the helm, whom will try to put his stamp on the team, that is if current Interim GM Danny Briere does not stay in that position. Even if he does stay in that position, it is expected that the Flyers are going to be very, very busy.

One expected a very busy offseason with lots of changes in hockey Ops and the player personnel. That was made clear yesterday my new Flyers head coach John Tortorella, and he said the flyers will be using addition by subtraction this offseason. I have done previous articles on such, with getting rid of some long-term contracts, most notably Kevin Hayes and Rasmus Ristolainen. However, the Flyers can part ways with Ivan Provorov if they wanted to. These long-term contracts are much easier to move in the offseason.

“The next step with this organization is you don’t start adding players until you subtract players,” John Tortorella’ following practice yesterday. “Those will be discussions at the end of the year.”

The Flyers are committed to the youth, and that has been made evident all season long practically. Especially with the latest round of call ups, however, there could be some young players/prospects on the move this offseason, this is one way to make trades more attractive. I’m not speculating anything here or giving names, but this offseason will be like the 2020-21 offseason, to which Fletcher changed over nearly half or more of the roster.

Tortorella has said over and over again that this was a learning season, an evaluation season to see who would sink or swim. He wanted to see who could be part of the solution for the Flyers moving forward before they moved on from said player. This was a good way to operate, as Tortorella didn’t know the majority of the players on the orange and black’s roster before the season started. He didn’t want to rush judgment, and have that player succeed in another organization before getting a good look at him.

Do not believe every trade rumor you hear, nor should you think every player will be moved. However, there will be some shockers I’m sure, but in the end Tortorella and the Flyers new regime, whomever that may be, will want to trim the fat and proceed further with the rebuild. All I can say is, it’s going to be a very, very busy offseason.
