Joel Farabee has evolved into a leader on and off the ice for the Flyers. He takes young players under his wings, and even houses players at his house from time to time. Farabee has explained to us in the past that it’s like a pay it back type system, from how sone veteran players treated him.
This Flyers team is a tight knit bunch of the ice, and that is one major reason fans see them sticking up for their teammates during the game, hence what happened last night in the 7-5 drubbing to the Florida Panthers. Farabee stuck up for Travis Sanheim, after he thought Sanheim was “Cheap shorted”, “I think our whole team makes it a point to stick up for each other,” Farabee said following practice today.
Farabee continues, “At any time in my career, I will not back down if my teammate gets cheap-shotted. It was a dumb time of the game. That was my mindset, stick up for them as best as I can. I take ownership.”
He also added that the same player elbowed Travis Konecny in the first (Joel said theat TK is their best player), then he went after their best dman in Sanheim.
At the end of the day, it’s in the past. Farabee plans to be more cogniscent of the time of game if this situation arises again. This is all part of building the locker room, even if it means costing the team a game in the future.
