Jett Luchanko is a secret weapon for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, a Flyers affiliate, especially this time of year. He’s in Lehigh to help with their playoff push.
Luchanko’s nickname could become “Speedy” as the Flyers organization hasn’t seen this type of speed infused in their lineup in years.

A player can play in the AHL at the conclusion of the CHL season, not during the middle of it, or the beginning of it, even if they don’t meet the initial age requirement of 20, per AHL rules. Now a player can get called up to the big club for emergency purposes only, that’s the only way they could receive a recall when the CHL season begins.

Last night in particular, Luchanko was dominant with the puck. He wanted the puck on his stick, as he infused the lineup with speed. Luchanko transitioned the play from Lehigh’s zone, to his opponents zone (Laval Rockets), skated in between two or three players to create space, this saucing the puck to Garrett Wilson in the slot for an easy tap in goal.
That’s Luchanko’s bread and butter, transitioning from defense to offense, gaining speed through the neutral zone, thus finding open seams for easy tap in goals. He’s just an elite skater, coupled with his excellent vision of the ice.
In the end, Luchanko is exactly what the doctor ordered for the Phantoms. They are now 1-1 with him in the lineup, as they beat the Laval Rockets 3-1 last night.
