Jamie Drysdale is widely regarded as the most improved player (or “most improved Flyer”) for the Flyers during the 2025-26 NHL season. Here are some key reasons why:

  • Health as the main factor: This is the first season he’s been primarily healthy after dealing with injuries (including abdominal issues) in prior years. The talent was always there, but staying on the ice has allowed his development to flourish.
  • Statistical jumps: As of late February/early March 2026, he’s recorded six goals and 25 points in 56 games—already matching or surpassing his previous career-high point totals in fewer games. He’s on pace for around seven goals and 34 points, which would be career bests.
  • On-ice impact: He’s logging top-four defenseman minutes (around 20-21+ ATOI), showing better defensive play (improved expected goals share, helping the Flyers control 55-60% of shot attempts when he’s on the ice), stronger puck-moving, skating poise, and contributions on the power play (including recent goals like a game-tying one vs. Ottawa and a PP winner).
  • Recognition: He’s arguably the “most improved” player on the team as of early February 2026, noting he’d be a strong candidate for an internal “Most Improved” award if the season ended today.

In my Pre-Season predictions, I pegged him as a breakout candidate for this exact reason. Drysdale finally had an offseason to train properly, given he was healthy. That’s the biggest factor, all he had to do was stay healthy.

Drysdale has emerged as a key piece in the Flyers’ rebuild, looking more comfortable defensively and offensively at just 23 years old. He’s definitely a bright spot for Philly this season, and he’s been more vocal while turning into a leader.
