Jackson Cates and the Flyers agreed to a new one-year deal, per the Flyers.
A native of Stillwater, MN, Jackson Cates stands at 6’0 and weighs 190 pounds. He suited up for 11 games with the Flyers this past season, before he endured a season ending injury with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. However, he did net his first NHL goal with the big club before being sent back to the Phantoms for the rest of the season.
Cates has played in 15 career NHL games with the Flyers, while registering one goal and one career assist. The guy is versatile as he can play both wing and center, and he has speed to boot.
Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher continues to revamp the team with physicality with recently adding Nic Deslauriers, and he is trying to build more chemistry in the locker room. Cates will be used more as a depth player, but him and his brother Noah Cates play well together.
This native of Minnesota is not afraid to stick up for his teammates either. That is what separates him from a lot of players. He is passionate about the sport of hockey, and that can be used with the big club or in Lehigh. Some people may have not have heard about Cates before he donned a Flyers jersey, but once he put on that orange and black sweater all things changed.
