A season that started out with some expectations, at least to make the playoffs, it hasn’t been anything but. This season for the Flyers is a similar season to 2020-21, as the Flyers return back from break in second to last place in the Metropolitan Division.

Let me reiterate, the Flyers are in second to last place in the Metropolitan Division with 38 points, and most likely will not make the playoffs. They have a mathematical percentage of a 2% shot at making the playoffs, and that is being generous. Seeing they have a very little shot at making the playoffs, why wouldn’t the Flyers recall some of the youth in Lehi for tonight’s game against the Detroit Red Wings at 7:00 p.m.?

Yesterday’s lines that practice, and a Flyers recall by means of only Isaac Ratcliffe indicates that Morgan Frost and Cam York will not play in tonight’s game against the Red Wings.

Flyers lines at practice, per Jordan Hall from NBC Sports:

Lindblom-Giroux-Atkinson
JvR-Laughton-Konecny
Mayhew-Brassard-Willman
Ratcliffe-Bunnaman-MacEwen

Provorov-Braun
Sanheim-Ristolainen
Yandle-Seeler

For Frost, there’s nothing more to prove at the AHL level, but Flyers Interim Head Coach Mike Yeo says they were not recalled due to a decreased role with the big club and ice time:

“It’s part of the process,” Yeo said following practice. “For a guy like Frosty, he’ll have a chance to go play in every situation down there, get increased ice time.” – Mike Yeo on why Morgan Frost will stay with Lehigh for the time being

Yeo continued, “For Yorky, he’ll probably end up playing close to 30 minutes a game down there, penalty kill, playing in every situation, power play.”

Regardless of Derick Brassard returning tonight or not, it’s time to start playing the youth, it’s time to recall some of the younger guys who are on ELC’s (Entry-Level-Contract) to play for the big club. Let’s see what they got, as the Flyers sit with 49 total contracts, and are inching closer towards a contractual limit of 50. If some of these prospects on ELC’s don’t have it, it’s time to cut ties with them and let them go to another NHL organization. There is only one way to find out if they don’t have it, it’s by giving them an opportunity to see some NHL games, so the Flyers won’t go down the Patrick Sharp route. Connor Bunnaman has seen many games as a Flyer, call up Rubtsov instead, give him a look.

Who are some of these names I’m speaking of: Morgan Frost, Cam York, German Rubtsov, Linus Sandin, Egor Zamula, and Maksim Sushko.

All of these aforementioned names are on ELC’s, and shall be given a look to see if they should stay within the organization. Sandin and Rubtsov alone could play in professional leagues in their home countries, so it’s time to see if they can cut it or not. Let them sink or swim, call up the youth!!!!!
