Hockey fans throughout the World can rejoice finally the greatest sport on Earth is returning Wednesday January 13, 2021. Woohoo-Yay-Dancing starts now.

Via the NHL Press Release:

“It is the current plan to play games in the home arenas of participating teams while understanding that most arenas will not, at least in the initial part of the season, be able to host fans. “However, depending on prevailing conditions both in local markets and across North America, the League will be prepared to play games in one or more “neutral site” venues per division should it become necessary.”

It became official after the NHL and NHLPA voted today. Flyers Training Camp begins January 3, 2021, with a roster size of 23 players, and a taxi squad of four to six players bringing the roster size to 27-29 players. Taxi squad players will be able to travel and practice with the team. The Flyers can have up to 36 skaters for camp with unlimited goalies.

Training camps will open on January 3, 2021, and December 31, 2020 for non-playoff teams. No exhibition games will be played, the NHL will move straight to the 56 game season. Players have the option to opt out if they or have any family members that are high risk for Covid-19.

Right now the target date for the end of the Regular season is May 8, 2021.

Opt out dates are December 24 for non-playoff teams, and December for playoff teams from this past years playoffs. It is mandatory for all teams to have three goalies on their roster, either being on the main roster or taxi squad roster.

The NHL slide rule drops from 10 games to 7 games before a rookies ELC is activated, per Elliote Friedman.
