Lord’s Stanley Cup is what every NHL player dreams of, and it’s what every player dreams of winning. It’s part of the reason players play the game. The fans also covet the trophy, and it gives them a sense of being a part of the team.
The Stanley Cup is typically awarded in June, and it’s given to the team that was able to survive the grueling task of winning the trophy. This season the NHL and other sports, as well, were shutdown due to the Covid-19 virus. A pandemic shutdown the greatest sport in the World…hockey of course.
For the first time ever the Stanley Cup might be awarded in August, September, or even in October. This is of course if hockey does in fact reconvene like the NHL, and most players alike hopes it will. So I pose this question to our viewers: Does it matter what month the Flyers win the Cup? That is of course if they won the Cup if hockey reconvened: Take a minute and think about it.
Absolutely not. A Cup is a Cup, and it should not matter what month the Flyers won the Cup. If the Flyers did in fact win the Cup if hockey reconvened, Flyers fans throughout the World would go bonkers, even if those select people did not want hockey to reconvene in the first place. There is not one Flyers fan that can tell me with a straight face that they wouldn’t be happy to see Claude Giroux, Sean Couturier, Jakub Voracek, Travis Konecny, or Carter Hart raise that coveted Stanley Cup. Those fans would tear up like a baby, and they would need some tissues to wipe those tears away.
I write this article because I have seen some fans say they wouldn’t like to see hockey being played in July or August, and I respect that. Unfortunately, these are the cards the league is dealt with. If the sport reconvenes safely, and with the CDC’s backing (As the NHL vows). Personally, I don’t see why anyone would be unhappy with the Flyers raising that Cup in one of the month’s as stated above. At the end of the day most Flyers fans hear this chant: Let’s go Flyers duh-duh-da-da-duh, Let’s go Flyers duh-duh-da-da-duh.
