Playoff hockey is officially back in the conversation in Philadelphia, and it feels electric right now. As of April 6, 2026, the Flyers (39-26-12, 90 points) have climbed into the third spot in the Metropolitan Division after a gritty 2-1 overtime win over the Boston Bruins on Easter Sunday.

Rookie Porter Martone scored his first NHL goal on the power play in overtime to seal it, and Dan Vladar stood tall with strong Goaltending. That victory, combined with a solid 4-1 road win over the New York Islanders a couple days earlier, has Philly back in a playoff position for the first time since mid-January.
Quick Look at the Current Picture:
- They’re one point ahead of the New York Islanders (who have one fewer game in hand in some scenarios) for the final Metro spot.
- The race is brutal: Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets, and others are right there in the wild-card mix.
- Remaining schedule (5 games left): @ Devils (Apr 7), @ Red Wings (Apr 9), @ Jets (Apr 11), vs. Hurricanes (Apr 13), vs. Canadiens (Apr 14). It’s a gauntlet—mostly against teams fighting for seeding or spots.
Some models give them around 50%+ odds of sneaking in, while others see it as a coin-flip or slightly below depending on how the regulation wins and tiebreakers shake out. A couple more wins in the next week could make it feel a lot more real.

This would end a multi-year playoff drought and give the young core (Michkov heating up, Martone stepping in, contributions from Zegras/Vladar, etc.) a huge confidence boost under coach Rick Tocchet. Even if they fall just short, the late-season surge has been impressive—14 wins in their last 21 or so since the Olympic break.
If they do make it, early projections have them potentially facing the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Battle of Pennsylvania first-round series. That would be pure chaos and exactly what Flyers fans live for.How pumped are you? Think they can hold the spot with this tough closing stretch, or is it going down to the final game? Any bold predictions on who steps up next?
