The Philadelphia Flyers are 22 games away from the Stanley cup Playoffs, and are currently sitting in the third spot after defeating the injury riddled Columbus Blue Jackets for a 5-1 victory in the first game of a home and home series. That being said- if the playoffs started today this would bring home ice to the Wells Fargo Center. A place where the Flyers have absolutely dominated teams. They have defeated the top teams in the league with the likes of the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues, and the Washington Capitals.

Carter Hart in just his first full season has developed into a franchise goaltender, something the flyers haven’t seen since Bernie Parent back in the 70’s. Young players are stepping up, and showing why they are on this roster. Guys like Robert Hagg, Travis Sanheim, and Joel Farabee. A Captain who provides integrity and leadership on every shift, emerging and proven stars like Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny producing every single
game.

With all of these positive attributes, and players mentioned previously I ask this: Why is there still so much doubt in the team? Why are the fans still so critical of the Flyers in a negative way? I have been seeing a lot of negative energy on “Twitter.” Fans stating, “It’s too soon to get excited, they aren’t that good, they will be eliminated in the 1st round- if they even make the playoffs,” Blah Blah Blah. Is it the hope for fans to say, “I told you so?” Do the fans really believe they aren’t that good?

This 2019-2020 Flyers team is one of the most exciting, well prepared, well coached hockey teams I have personally watched since 2012- a team that made the playoffs and won the divisional round. As a writer, a fan, and a hockey player, I think the fans really need to evaluate the team that is being presented on the ice.

A team that has zero quit, that plays unbelievable at home- where home ice advantage will be the advantage. Now,
before everyone goes nuts- Yes, the team needs to do better on the road. To quote Carter Hart, he said, “It’s the same ice, the same puck.” Simply put, they must find ways to perform better on the road. If that happens, I believe this team has a real chance to go deep into the playoffs. To end the rant here; Flyers Fans, lets get back behind this team. It’s ok to be critical, but be realistic. The team is playing at a high level right now. Twenty-two games remain everyone-Hop on the Flyers Train-We are going for a ride-Choo-Choo!

That’s my story and I am sticking to it!

  1. Being a fan in this city means you have experienced heart break time and time again… 1997, 2010 Stanley cup finals, 2001 nba championship (rip kobe 🙏🏼), 2005 Super Bowl…. we know as fans from this city that if it’s too good to be true.. it probably is. Skepticism just comes with the territory but I think if the flyers keep progressing and make it to the playoffs… people will start to notice and hopefully start to get behind the team. I know playoff time isn’t the time to get behind them and it should be now… considering the flyers are actually doing well… but hey.. that’s philly fans for ya 🤷🏻‍♀️

    1. This is an in Unbelievable response. Perfectly said SBD. I am certainly going to be tweeting this out. Thank you for the read. Philly fans are the best around , but right now isn’t the time to be critical when the team is playing at an all time high. Trust me, no one had forgotten about Crosby ha-ha.

  2. People see “battling for playoffs” and think barely hanging on ..this team is a top 10 team in the entire NHL. They underachieved the last couple years. They are not overachieving this year. This is a really good hockey team.

    1. I agree with that for sure. They defeated all top teams ahead of us. They are winning games against opponents they should – minus the NJ game. They are doing things right. Thanks for the read.
