Coming into Tuesday night’s match up, the Flyers had one goal on their mind and that was to beat the flamming hot Flames, which they did in overtime to get over the hump with a 2-1 victory on Hall of Fame night.

In the first period, Oliver Kylington got it going for the Flames which was a nasty snap shot that fired past Carter Hart to make it 1-0. The Flames looked really good throughout the opening period.

In the second period, the Flyers trickled back with a very good opportunity to tie the game up at one as Kevin Hayes scored his first goal of the season to tie the game at one. Following goal he pointed to the sky for his late brother Jimmy Hayes, “I’m happy it happened sooner rather than later honestly,” Kevin Hayes. “It was a big goal, trainers got the puck for me, I’m going to give it to Jimmy’s kid, Jimmy’s son Beau and it’ll be one I remember for forever.”

“I think you could see it on my face. I think everything happens for a reason. I was the first guy to hug him. Got the puck for Kev, you know it’s a big goal, not one for our team but for Kev and like he said, we’ll all remember this for forever, a long long time. It was special.” – Cam Atkinson

In the 3rd period, it was all quiet as both sides were locked in and had trouble finding good findings around the goal to take the lead which made things challenging for both sides. The Flyers definitely played better the last 40 minutes to even out the play.

Neither team could defeat the goaltending duel through three periods, so it went in to overtime in South Philadelphia with Flyers fans eager for a win and just 45 seconds in to the overtime, the Flyers got the win as Cam Atkinson pounced on Sean Couturier’s rebound, and deposited the puck for a game winner.

The Flyers are now 8-4-2 on the season thanks in large part to stellar goaltending from Carter Hart. Hart finish the game with 33 saves on 34 shots, which is good enough for a .971 Save Percentage.
