Here comes a Lion roaring into the Flyers Skate Zone, as he became the first netminder at the Skate Zone for workouts, “I like it, it has followed me everywhere in my Junior career with the Omaha Lancers,” ALEX LYON said in reference to fans referring to him roaring like a Lion back in February, “They would do the ‘Lion King’ stuff in Omaha. Yale, and obviously Lehigh Valley it has stayed with me. I used to love it, and in college I got really annoyed by it, but it’s a good brand for me. I think almost every fan now asks that ‘Alex is lion on Madagascar, that’s like your name’ I’m like I know I’ve heard it.”
Lyon won’t kill you with his stats, but he plays a simple game and gets results. He will be a reserve player when the hockey season reconvenes in case an injury occurs to star netminder Carter Hart, or backup Brian Elliott. Lyon has proven throughout his career that he can handle the rigors of a playoff game. For instance, a 94 save performance in a 2-1 overtime victory against the Charlotte Checkers on May, 10, 2018, while Lyon was a member of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
The 27-year-old netminder in Lyon produced solid numbers this season for the Phantoms, as he has compiled a 2.69 GAA, and a .913 Save Percentage in 32 games played. Is he flashy? No, but Lyon gets the job done, and he remains a true professional in the process as he loves Nolan Patrick, “Nolan is an amazing player. He’s got so much talent, it’s insane. It’s always cool to be around him. Just witness his skill, like I’m impressed with G, Coots, and Jake you go down list. The number two overall player, it’s great.”
Lyon always appears to have the Flyers backs when called upon. He appeared in three games for the Flyers this season, while compiling a 3.55 GAA, and a .890 Save Percentage. This was good enough for a 1-1 record, not flashy but he got the job done when Hart was hurt. His best performance with the orange and black came against the Colorado Avalanche on February 1, 2020, in a 6-3 Flyers victory. With the win, it just so happened to be Lyon’s fifth career NHL victory. The Flyers moved into the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference, and were just one point out of third place at the time.
This 27-year-old netminder in Lyon, roared in like a lion for the Flyers, and remained a true professional in the process. Most fans appreciate what he brings to the table. Lyon brings playoff experience, has proven he is reliable, and gets the job done. Phantoms fans love him for good reason, he’s a class act, and always has his teammates backs. Lyon could become a vital part to the Flyers playoff success, and he CAN be trusted.
