The addition of Zegras, projected to score 25+ goals, and a potential breakout from Tippett (aiming for 30 goals) could give the Flyers two solid scoring lines. Hiring Rick Tocchet as Head Coach is also a positive, bringing a hard-nosed, structured approach that could maximize the team’s potential.
However, Goaltending remains a significant question mark. Samuel Ersson is the primary starter, but his performance last season (.890 Save Percentage) was inconsistent, and the backup situation with Dan Vladar (acquired to replace Ivan Fedotov) is unproven. The Flyers’ Goaltending tandem needs to step up, as last season’s collapse was partly due to inconsistencies at the Goaltending position. If Vladar and Ersson can stabilize the crease, the Flyers’ chances of making the playoffs improve significantly.
Projections for the 2025-26 season are mixed. Some people are optimistic, with one bold prediction suggesting the Flyers will sneak into the playoffs as a wild-card team, potentially with 93 points. This optimism stems from the team’s young core, improved offensive potential, and a weak Metropolitan Division, where teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils may not dominate as expected. However, others are less confident, pointing to the Flyers’ regression last season, as a primary factor why. The Eastern Conference is also stacked with strong teams like the Florida Panthers, New York Rangers (Expected to be back to form) and the Carolina Hurricanes, which could edge out the Flyers for wild-card spots.
The Flyers’ defensive depth is another concern. While they have promising prospects like Oliver Bonk and Emil Andrae, their blueline lacks a true difference-maker, which could hurt them in tight games. Their Penalty Kill (4th in the NHL last season at 83.4%) is a strength, but their Power Play (worst in the league at 12.2%) needs significant improvement to capitalize on opportunities.
Verdict: The Flyers have a decent shot at the playoffs, likely as a wild-card team, if their goaltending holds up and their young forwards (Michkov, Zegras, Tippett) deliver as expected. A point total around 90-93 could get them in, given the Metropolitan Division’s relative weakness. However, their rebuild is still ongoing, and inconsistencies in net or failure to improve their Power Play play could see them fall short again. Their success hinges on goaltending stability and offensive growth.
New coach, Trevor Zegras, a better Power Play, I predict they will make the Playoffs with 93 points as a Wild Card team.

Making the playoffs just to get bounced in the first or (MAYBE) second round and then once again NOT picking at least something resembling a legitimate 1C or 1D in the top5 of the draft sure does sound familiar after these past 10-15 years. Smfh.
Briere should be ALL IN trying to leverage Martin Necas out of Colorado with a package. And if not going after McTavish in Anaheim. Tippet, or Brink, or Cates, and or a Luchanko or Nesbitt with Ristolainen (50%retained) or something along those lines with Toronto’s 2027 1st rounder should absolutely be in play to try to pull something off. M. Necas would be a HUGE win. If you can keep Luchanko and Nesbitt too. Even better. If we can trade some wingers if a legit top6 Center? EVEN BETTER.
An ideal trade for Flyers (though Ava may want a Center back) would be something like sending the Avalanche O.Tippet, B.Brink or Noah Cates, Leafs 2027 1st, a 2026 2nd, and a 2027 3rd. And bring Martin Necas to Philadelphia. He is stylistically a perfect Center for Michkov.

Top6 has a nasty high offensive ceiling. 3rd line has some scoring depth, speed, size, and grit. And your 4th line is basically another 3rd line to roll anytime they get hot. Gritty shut down line that can still score. Very very young team.
Then we should talk about pulling a legit young 1D out of NJ (Nemec) or even Buffalo.
