It wasn’t an easy decision for Gary Bettman to freeze the NHL season last Thursday. Flyers fans throughout the world were thinking the same thing, what can I do now to occupy my time, or what to do next? Here are some suggestions to occupy your time, until the greatest sport on Earth reconvenes (Hopefully).

Time With Family and Friends

Throughout the course of the hockey season, sometimes your friends and family get the back seat at times inadvertently from watching Flyers hockey, attending practices, doing research on your phone about the team, streaming, and doing stats. This downtime is a great time to bond with your family and friends, cook and clean together, play board games, play video games, just love every minute you spend with them.

Play Roller Hockey

I remember back in my childhood days pulling out the hockey net from the garage, throwing on my rollerblades, and just having a blast playing street hockey with my friends (To include adults). Dust off those rollerblades, pull that hockey net out, go to the store and get multiple street hockey pucks or NHL street hockey balls, and just have the time of your life. Feel like it’s “The Summer of ’69” again.

Catch up on TV Shows

At some point throughout the NHL season, some shows just continue to be taped on your DVR machine. It’s the end of the season, to which you haven’t watched one tv show of your favorite show. By the time the season ends you have 16 shows to watch with little time to watch the entire season. Now is a great time to get ahead, and watch your favorite shows season in it’s entirety (Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Grey’s Anatomy, Empire, This is Us, Blue Bloods, Gold Rush, Jersey Shore). Don’t forget to check out a series called 24 it’s pretty good.

Watch Flyers games from this past season

Diehard Flyers fans tape almost every game. Get out your notepad, and start jotting down some notes on this team. This season just had that magical feel to it, and for many Flyers fans this season felt like 2010 all over again. Of course, the Coronavirus stands in the way of that for the moment, but it still has that feeling, at least to me it does. Relive Kevin Hayes doing the Champ pose after potting a game winner, or Ivan Provorov going end to end for the game winner against Montreal, or relive Carter Hart’s insane glove save against the New Jersey Devils.

Listen to Podcasts

At Flyersnittygritty.com our podcast “Gettin Gritty Wit It” won’t stop. We will continue to tape every Monday night at 730pm. There is just so much to talk about, to include prospects, the draft, and free agency. This gives us quality time to evaluate these big areas. Moreover, @oandpuck, @HW_Radio_, @TheBSBPodcast (Broad Street Bully), @flyersbroadcast with Jason Myrtetus, Bill Meltzer, and Chris Therien, @BSH_Radio, and lastly @SnowTheGoalie podcasts are good, as well.

Read Books

There are some good Flyers books that are made available. Sam Carchidi and Lou Nolan have a great Flyers book called “If these Walls Could Talk,” and Carchidi has also written a book with Wayne Fish called “The Big 50.” For those wondering, I do not have a book published YET.

Play Video Games

NHL 20 on Playstation 4 and on the Xbox can never get old. It’s pretty neat that you can use current rosters, and unlock secret players. It never gets old, never. Don’t forget about Fortnite, Minecraft, World of Warcraft, or The Legend of Zelda either.

This is a tough time for all parties involved, but we (As humans) will get through this. The value of a human life is far more important than a sporting event, so let’s hope this pandemic ends soon. Flyers fans are the best in the business, please stay safe and remain healthy through this.
