There is no mistake about it. Cam York is one of the Flyers top prospects, and he made quite the impression tonight. York netted his first professional goal, and chipped in two assists as well, all in the first period. The puck he blasted his first professional goal with is currently in Mars as we speak. York mustered one goal, two assists, was a +2, and registered three shots on net in the 6-5 victory tonight. For his efforts, York was named as the second star of the game.

York is confident, skating well, and just so darn good with transitioning from defense to offense. One if the best qualities he possesses on the offensive side of the game is his shot accuracy. He hits the net nine times out of ten.

He had some expected rust from him last week, but he has found his niche, “You ask any hockey player and it seems like once you get out of your routine it is a really tough situation,” York said following a game earlier in the week. “As a hockey player, everything is about having a schedule and a certain routine. When you get thrown out of that for five weeks or whatever it was. It almost felt like I had a little offseason there. It’s just a weird situation to go from playing games at Michigan to having that break and then having to ramp it up again especially at the professional level.”

The young 20-year-old in York did provide some nice plays with the man advantage though. For instance, York used his good instincts to keep a puck in Binghamton’s zone to extend the Power Play, which lead to a prime scoring chance. He is as good as Shayne Gostisbehere it appears at holding pucks in at the blue line. With little practice time of knowing where the team’s personnel was going to be and when, he is actually doing quite well in this area. York quarter backed Michigan’s top Power Play Unit this past season, and that is definitely helping his comfortability

I do not believe he will be with the Phantoms much longer. With Ghost being hurt, Flyers Head Coach Alain Vigneault and Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher have discussed the possibly of York joining the big club. If York continues to produce like this, then the Flyers top brass will call him up to get him some valuable NHL experience.
