The Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia officially changed its name to Xfinity Mobile Arena on August 14, 2025, ahead of the originally scheduled date of September 1, 2025.

This marks the fifth name change for the arena since it opened in 1996, previously known as CoreStates Center (1996–1998), First Union Center (1998–2003), Wachovia Center (2003–2010), and Wells Fargo Center (2010–2025).

The name change, announced in May 2025 by Comcast Spectacor and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, reflects a new naming rights deal with Xfinity Mobile that will last through the 2030–31 season. Crews began installing new signage on August 14, with exterior branding to be fully revealed in early September. The arena remains home to the Philadelphia Flyers, 76ers, and Wings, with a new shared arena planned for the South Philadelphia Sports Complex by 2031

Now the Flyers have a clean slate. Maybe the curse of missing the playoffs will now be over, as they have missed the playoffs for the last five seasons, which matches the longest drought in team history.

Tyson Foerster

Yesterday, Bill Meltzer of Philadelphiaflters.com and hockeyhotstove, provided a favorable update on Tyson Foerster:

“Reached by text today, Flyers GM Daniel Briere said Foerster appears likely to be able to start the 2025-26 season on time.” – Bill Meltzer tweeted

This is great news for the Flyers and Foerster, who signed a new contract that’s past off-season. Foerster looks to take the next step in his career, possibly top six minutes under new Head Coach Rick Tocchet.

“I’d love to be here for forever (Philly),” Foerster said at exit interviews. Hopefully, the infection in his arm will be a thing of the past when Training Camp starts.
