There are some interesting storylines, to which answers will be given in time. Look for young prospects like Matvei Michkov, Emil Andrae, and Hunter McDonald to try and take the next step in their game to make the team on opening night. Of course, Michkov is a shoo-in for a top 6 role on this young Flyers team. Egor Zamula looks to make an impression to the Flyers top brass for the sixth defensive position, as well as, be a translator at times for Michkov. Most of these players have been in Voorhees for a large part of the Summer training for what is shaping up to be a grueling Training Camp.
A few more players to watch are Jett Luchanko, Oliver Bonk, Rodrigo Abols, and Oskar Eklind. Luchanko could be on the cusp of making the team next training camp, so it will be fun watching to see how he handles his first Flyers camp. Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere did not rule out a nine-game tryout for Bonk, so let’s see how he handles himself in his second camp. Abols and Eklind both are vying for notoriety in the organization. Will Abols be able to secure the fourth line Center position? Or will he be the first call-up in case of injury, much like Eklind.

We cannot forget about is the backup goaltending position. It will be interesting to see how Ivan Fedotov fares as a true backup to Ersson. Ersson has been declared the number one netminder, per Briere, but let’s also see if Eetu Mäkiniemi can make an imprint and earn a contract for the 2024-25 season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Flyers fans caught their first glimpse of Matvei Michkov during Rookie Camp, and my gosh did he put on a show. He surely didn’t disappoint. Michkov’s skating was crisp, his hands were sick, and he also did a nice little oke check to Jett Luchanko for a goal on the first day, and he was comfortable from there. He was by far, the cream of this crop of rookies and if anyone wondered that throughout rookie camp, think again.
What else will take place at Training Camp is anyone’s guess, but it will be fun to watch, “Look at Cam York. He was a horror show today (Skating), but he finished. That’s what it’s about,” John Tortorella said two camps ago. Honestly, That’s what I expect Tortorella to say about Michkov this go around.
