It has been a whirlwind 24 hours for the Flyers, Shayne Gostisbehere, and the proud faithful of the orange and black.

Still beloved by many, Ghost was placed on waivers yesterday in what appears to be a cap savings move. Ghost has officially cleared waivers, and the Flyers now save $1.075 million of salary, and have now banked close to $5.1 million which could be used to obtain a player(s) by the trade deadline on April 12, 2021.

Yesterday, Chuck Fletcher placed Ghost on waivers so he would be effectively moved within the 23 man lineup, placed with the Taxi Squad, or the main hope was to be claimed to get rid of his $4.5 million salary.

Ghost has been effective while in the lineup this year as he has been a top four defensemen. Granted, that’s not really saying much, as the whole team has been very consistent, inconsistently not meeting up to fans or the organizations hope at becoming a contender this season, but the defensive unit has struggled mightily this season with transitioning from defense to offense. There just hasn’t been good puck support by the defensemen to lead the rush up the ice, coupled with bad breakouts/exits, and turnover after turnover. Puck management has been a huge detriment to this young Flyers team (Average age of 27-years-old).

Why are some Flyers fans upset about Ghost being on waivers? Well, the end is nearing and they can feel it. Ghost has been beloved for many reasons: He strongly supports the SPCA (Speaks sometimes publicly for them, and donates), he advocated for more masks for frontline workers, and he is a founder of the Ghostbear Foundation which, “Provide support and encouragement to organizations motivating young athletes aspiring to have professional, or collegiate, hockey careers.”

Ghost is a class act that’s why it is difficult for some fans to come to grips with this. Yes, he may play tonight, or Ghost can even go to the Taxi Squad roster, but Flyers fans are smart they know more than likely he will not be here past this season.

Stay tuned Flyers fans for a crazy ride to the trade deadline.
