Yesterday, Dan Hilferty was tabbed as Dave Scott’s replacement, a move that goes into effect on April 1, 2023. Hilferty will officially take over as CEO on April 17, 2023, while becoming the Board of Governor for the Philadelphia Flyers on July 1, 2023.

Spectacor Sports and Entertainment CEO Valerie Camillo will work directly with Hilferty, overseeing the Wells Fargo Center. This includes the Center’s continued transformation, and lead the Flyers business operations.

Hilferty graduated from Saint Joseph’s in 1978. He has held leadership roles with Independence Blue Cross, AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies, and Mercy Health Corporation. Hilferty even led a bid on behalf of the City of Philadelphia to become a host city for the 2026 World FIFA World Cup.

Hilferty added in February in a statement released by the Flyers, “It’s an honor to have this opportunity to be a part of Comcast Spectacor. As a longtime Philadelphian who has admired the company for decades and is a tenacious Flyers fan, I’m excited about Comcast Spectacor and its future. I look forward to working with Dave and Valerie and the many other talented leaders of this storied organization.”

This elite Philadelphia businessman in Hilferty appears to be a sports enthusiast. He calls himself a Flyers fan, and Hilferty tried getting the World Cup to the city of Philadelphia in 2026.

The orange and black continue to reface the organization after three years of a free fall. This is one major step in the direction. Gone are Chuck Fletcher and Dave Scott, enter Interim GM Danny Briere and Dan Hilferty.

Hilferty will bring a sense of a local infusion, as he hails from Ocean City, NJ. He spends his Summer’s down at the shore, maybe even drinking a Sea Isle Tea on the beach, or an ice cold Tuckahoe beer from the Tuckahoe Brewing Company. Hilferty wants to bring that energy and winning ways back to organization that needs it. Fans have been punched in the gut for far too long, and Hilferty wants to bring a Stanley Cup home to people that have been starving for one for the past 48 years.

How will this end is anyone’s guess, but he does have sports knowledge. Maybe he doesn’t have the business aspects of hockey just yet, or maybe he does. There are still some unknowns, but fans have clamored for a regime change, so they are getting it with refacing the Hockey Ops department after Chuck Fletcher and now Dave Scott will be departed. Let’s give Hilferty a shot, anything is better than what it was for the past three years or so years.
