The Flyers announced today that Darryl Williams has been named an Assistant Coach on Alain Vigneault’s coaching staff that includes Mike Yeo, Michel Therrien, Kim Dillabaugh, and Adam Patterson.
“Darryl has experience at every level and I am confident that he will fit seamlessly into our coaching staff,” Vigneault said via the Flyers press release. “There is a high level of familiarity having worked with Darryl for several years and I know what he is capable of to help bring success to our group.”
Williams joins the Flyers after serving as an Assistant Coach for the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers. He was previously on Alain Vigneault’s coaching staff for a total of nine seasons to include the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers.
“I’m honored to join the Philadelphia Flyers organization,” Williams said. “I can’t wait to get started with such a great staff and an exciting group of players.”
He is set to take over for Ian Laperrière with the big club. Williams was an Assistant Coach of the St. John’s Fog Devils of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2005-06 to 2007-08. He was also the Head Coach of the Long Beach Ice Dogs in the West Coast Hockey League in 2000-01 and 2001-02, and the Kansas City Outlaws of the United Hockey League in 2004-05.
Chuck Fletcher indicated to the media this last week that there were changes to the front office, and of course two new assistants for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Williams has lots of experience, and should be given every shot to succeed within the Flyers organization.
