The Philadelphia Flyers traveled to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, to take on the Devils Tuesday night in their fifth-to-last game of the regular season. Dan Vladar got the start in net. Carl Grundstrom became a healthy scratch with Denver Barkey re-entering the lineup. Both Trevor Zegras and Tyson Foerster scored two goals to help lead the Flyers to victory. Vladar made huge saves throughout the game to seal the deal. The orange and black improved to 40-26-12 on the season.

Zegras gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead just 1:56 into the first period. Travis Sanheim, from the left circle, found Zegras at the right circle, and he put a wrist shot into a wide-open net. Sanheim and Owen Tippett tallied assists.

The Flyers got the game’s first power play at the 2:21 mark of the first as Jack Hughes was called for tripping. They’d capitalized courtesy of Zegras with his second goal. Porter Martone zipped a pass to Zegras, and he put a wrist shot past the blocker of Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom. Martone and Jamie Drysdale picked up assists.

Cody Glass got the Devils on the board at the 12:12 mark of the first period. He deflected Jonas Siegenthaler’s shot from the slot over Vladar and into the net. 2-1 Flyers. Siegenthaler and Lenni Hameenaho were given assists.

The Flyers got caught with too many men on the ice just 31 seconds into the second period. This gave the Devils their first power play. Matvei Michkov served the penalty. Vladar ended up making some huge saves on Connor Brown and Dougie Hamilton, and the Flyers were able to clear the puck down a few times. Luke Glendening made a great play to get the puck to center as well.

Foerster made the score 3-1 Flyers at the 2:46 mark of the second. Michkov made a nice pass up the ice, and Foerster went on a two-on-one with Tippett. Foerster finished with a snapshot through the legs of Markstrom. Michkov received the lone assist.

The score became 4-1 Flyers at the 4:58 mark of the second period as Foerster scored his second goal of the game. He took an across-ice pass from Zegras and put a wrist shot into a wide-open net. Johnathan Kovacevic got a piece of the pass to slow the puck down. Assists went to Zegras and Michkov.

The Devils went on their second man advantage at the 12:38 mark of the second as Noah Cates was called for delay of game (puck over glass). Vladar came up with big saves on multiple Devils players, and the Flyers did their job of clearing the puck down the ice to waste time.

Denver Barkey got called for delay of game (puck over glass) at the 8:20 mark of the third period, which gave the Devils their third power play. The Flyers did a great job of blocking shots and intercepting passes. The Devils didn’t record any shots on net.

The Flyers went on their second power play at the 10:47 mark of the third as Brian Halonen got called for high-sticking. Markstrom made a save on Martone, and the Flyers had a few shots blocked. The Devils had a chance while shorthanded, but Christian Dvorak blocked the shot.

Markstrom was pulled with 4:51 remaining in the third period in favor of the extra attacker with the Devils down by three. He had to return to the net due to an offside. He’d be pulled again with 3:00 left, but it backfired. Nick Seeler sent the puck from deep in his own end all the way down into the empty net. This made the score 5-1 Flyers. The goal was unassisted.

Flyers went one for two on the power play and killed off all three of the Devils’ man-advantages.

Vladar saved 23 of 24 shots, giving him a .958 save percentage.
